Here are some of the most active alkaloids in kratom. While over 40 alkaloids have been identified, this is a brief look at a few key ones. Together, they make up as much as 85% of kratom’s total alkaloid content, with most other alkaloids typically accounting for less than 1% each.
- Mitragynine – The primary alkaloid, believed to support stimulation, mood, and focus at lower amounts, with relaxation effects at higher amounts. (up to 66% of total alkaloid content)
- 7-Hydroxymitragynine – A potent alkaloid thought to contribute to calming and tension-easing effects, though present in lower concentrations (about 2% or less of alkaloid content).
- Paynantheine – The second most abundant alkaloid, potentially involved in muscle relaxation and physical ease (about 8-10% of alkaloid content).
- Speciociliatine – Structurally similar to mitragynine, possibly influencing stress regulation and mild relaxation ( about 6-7% of alkaloid content).
